Old Adirondack Classic Folding Adirondack Chair:

If you are a traditionalist, and love knowing the history of your furniture, you will treasure this classic Adirondack chair that has it roots in the early Great Camps of the Adirondacks.

Old Adirondack Furniture Company:

The Old Adirondack Furniture Company traces its history to the Great Camps of the Adirondack Park circa 1880 - 1929. Prominent industrialists established their retreats in the Adirondack region in order to escape from the summer heat of New York City, Philadelphia and Boston. Flat Rock Camp at the eastern edge of the park, like other Great Camps, boasts many buildings whose functions resemble those of a rural village: blacksmith, carpentry shop, green houses, tennis courts, bowling alleys, teahouses etc

These industrialists' families would "summer" in the cool north and the men would visit for extended weekends. The year round residents of the village would have a long off-season from September to June when the camp owners were not present. Off-season projects for the Flat Rock caretakers maintained the properties and kept them busy. The foreman reproduced and refined the Adirondack chair (originally from Westport, NY)

The furniture operation outgrew its original location at Flat Rock Camp and first moved to the Grange Building in Willsboro, then to the vacant horse nail factory in Keeseville, New York. Today, the modern 25,000 square foot production facility is not far from the horse nail factory near to its Willsboro roots. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our growing company and the wonderful benefits of USA grown Northern White Cedar. Experience the Adirondacks and enjoy the craftsmanship of each piece.

About The Material:

  • Our Northern White Cedar, natural and untreated, is grown in moist swampy NE woodlands.
  • Cedar absorbs and loses moisture slowly, which minimizes the dry cracking, splintering and swelling more characteristic of oak or pine.
  • Cedar has the US Forest Products Laboratory highest rating for decay and disease resistance.
  • Fresh cedar odor is a mild insect repellent.
  • Eastern White Cedar’s natural wood oils may develop a dust on the surface of the wood, which is the crystallization of the wood oils. These are normal and natural processes in cedar and in no way affect the strength or durability of the furniture. This dust can be easily removed with a dry cloth.
  • Develops a weathered, silver grey patina in one year for most climates.
  • Our cedar products are shipped in their natural color, pale tan or light gold. The color changes evenly over time to a silver gray. Water-based or oil stains will delay the weathering process. Latex paint coats evenly and lets wood breathe.
  • Occasionally, cedar will warp slightly during transportation, but usually the warp goes away once the furniture has been assembled.
  • Furniture includes durable zinc coated stainless steel hardware.  Minor assembly requires (10-15 minutes).
